The Regional Council of the Western Vallès marks a new direction with a robust budget for 2025

A budget with a significant increase

The Vallès Occidental Regional Council recently ratified a budget of €71,267,915.52 for 2025, which represents a significant increase of €7,445,696.52 compared to the previous year. This figure not only reflects growth in absolute terms, but is also based on four key strategic axes: social care, municipal waste management, talent development and territorial action.

The main focuses of the budget

Within the budget, the items dedicated to social care and waste treatment constitute the largest part of the investments. In the vote, the groups of the PSC, ERC, Junts per Catalunya, En Comú Guanyem and Tot per Terrassa supported the approval, while the PP and CAM-AMUNT abstained and VOX voted against it.

Exponential growth in a decade

In the period between 2015 and 2025, the Council’s budget has experienced impressive growth, from 18 million euros to over 71 million. In addition, the Regional Action Plan 2025-2028 establishes that 60% of the resources will be allocated to social cohesion, with 33% for the ecological transition.

Changes in source of income

From 2024, the composition of budget revenues has undergone significant changes. The Generalitat de Catalunya, which has historically been the main source of revenue, has seen its contribution reduced to 54%, while public taxes and prices represent 34% of the total.

Statements from the President of the Council

Ignasi Giménez, president of the Regional Council and mayor of Castellar del Vallès, commented that ‘this budget is the result of a decade of work and a paradigm shift in the relationship with the town councils.’ He highlighted the importance of integrity, transparency and collaboration as foundations for effective government.

Priorities in social care

The Social Inclusion and Cohesion axis, which absorbs 60% of the budget, focuses on subsidies for canteens and school transport services, with significant increases in both areas. Significant funds are also allocated to childcare and adolescent care.

Investments in sustainability

The ecological transition sector receives prominent attention, with almost 23.5 million euros allocated to waste management. Actions against climate change and food sustainability are priorities, with projects financed by European funds.

A strategic plan for the future

The plan for 2025 includes a series of initiatives such as the digitalization of services, the promotion of gender equality, and the improvement of transparency in public management. Work will also begin on the river paths of the Ripoll River, a project that seeks to generate synergies between municipalities.

A commitment to youth

Services aimed at young people are being consolidated, with programs focused on emotional health and socio-educational support. The intention is to ensure that the needs of this group are addressed in a comprehensive manner.
