A major phase change
The transformation of La Rambla reached an important milestone on Monday, June 17. The original plan to redevelop by sections from sea to mountains has been modified and has been divided into three areas: the Barri Gòtic sidewalk, the Raval sidewalk and the central promenade. The objective of this change is to accelerate the works and complete them in half the time initially planned, that is, in 2027 instead of 2030.
New traffic regulation
To carry out this important intervention, a new traffic regulation has been implemented. One of the most significant changes is that descending traffic is no longer allowed. Information panels and barriers have been installed on Pelai Street to redirect traffic towards Plaza de Catalunya. Although some drivers were perplexed, most have followed the new instructions. However, some bicycles have chosen to travel down the central promenade, even though it is not planned for them to do so.
Changes in circulation
The sidewalk on the Barri Gòtic side has been closed to traffic, so vehicles heading from the sea to the mountains now go up the Raval side. The traffic lights have been turned and warnings have been painted on the road to indicate the new direction of traffic. In addition, three crossings have been enabled for vehicles above the central promenade, regulated with traffic lights and the presence of the Urban Police. For a time, vehicles will be able to cross the central promenade of the Rambla.
Optimism at the start of works
On this day of the start of the works, the general director of BIMSA, Ricard Font, has shown optimism and has toured the area. He assures that everything is going well and will closely monitor the progress of the transformation of the Rambla.
