A new initiative for mental health
In the regions of Alcoià and El Comtat, an innovative platform has emerged that will work to improve mental health and fight against associated diseases. This platform, called SAMEDEN, has as its main objectives combating the stigma surrounding these diseases, raising public awareness of mental health needs and improving access to mental health services.
An inclusive approach
SAMEDEN places a special emphasis on care for young people, but also takes into account people affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. This platform seeks to involve several groups that were already working in this area, such as the Alcoi Department of Health, the associations of relatives of Alzheimer’s patients in Alcoi, Castalla, Onil, Cocentaina, Muro, Banyeres, the Association of Relatives of the Mentally Ill of the Navy, AIN, Coratge, el Gara, TEA-ASPERGER, the coordinator of the UNESCO Schools network and Doctor César Rodríguez Castelló. In addition, the platform has the support of the Rotary Club of Alcoi and will be directed by Santiago Llopis.
A collective effort
During SAMEDEN’s presentation, several representatives intervened to explain the details of the project and its objectives. Alfredo Rizo, manager of the Alcoi Health Department, highlighted the importance of this initiative to improve mental health in the community. Antonio Aracil, president of the Alcoi Rotary Club, encouraged society to get involved in this cause. Romualdo Coderch, head of the Rotary’s mental health committee, explained how the platform was formed and presented the first projects that will be launched. In addition, psychiatry specialists Cristian Molina Pizarro and César Rodríguez Castelló addressed topics such as suicide prevention and universal post-diagnostic support.
An educational vision
Jesús Martínez Vargas, director of IES Andreu Sempere and coordinator of the network of schools associated with UNESCO, explained the project related to the prevention of school conflicts and abuse in the educational environment. This initiative aims to improve coexistence and promote a healthy educational environment.
