A tradition that endures
On Sunday, June 2, outside the majestic cathedral of Barcelona, the Eucharist was celebrated with great solemnity in honor of the Body and Blood of Christ. This celebration follows a tradition that has been maintained throughout the decades and that brings together many people on special occasions.
A massive celebration
The altar and the presbytery were located in a prominent place, at the confluence between Pla de la Seu and Avinguda de la Catedral. Cardinal Joan Josep Omella presided over this celebration in front of hundreds of people, among whom were representatives of various religious organizations and popular piety organizations. It was also possible to see the presence of boys and girls who had made their First Communion this year, as well as members of different consecrated and lay communities.
A message of brotherly love
During the homily, the Archbishop of Barcelona called for brotherly love and the importance of always asking for forgiveness. He emphasized the need to communicate directly and respectfully, avoiding the spread of lies through social networks. He also recalled the figure of Tarsici, a boy who gave his life to protect the Eucharist, and mentioned the example of Carlo Acutis, a young apostle of the Eucharist who will soon be canonized by the Pope.
The Eucharist as a treasure of love
Cardinal Omella described the Eucharist as a treasure that Jesus gives us to share and show solidarity. He emphasized the role of Caritas as an association that works in favor of the most needy and recalled the generosity of people like Dorotea de Chopitea, who gave everything they had for the poor. He concluded by affirming that the true greatness of the Church resides in the love that never disappears.
A celebration full of music and prayer
The solemn mass was accompanied by the Francesc Valls Chamber Choir, which animated the singing and music. The organ also sounded with its majesty. The celebration was attended by auxiliary bishops, canons and many priests. The final prayer and the exposition of the Blessed One gave way to a procession full of silence, songs and prayers through the streets of Ciutat Vella, with the Body of Christ in a float. Thus concluded this great celebration.
