The inclusion of the Guàrdia Urbana in the Equality Plan
For the first time, the Tarragona City Police joins the Gender and Equal Opportunities Plan promoted by the City Council. This significant step implies a commitment on the part of the police force to promote equal opportunities within its workforce, ensuring that both men and women can advance in their careers without facing gender discrimination.
Key actions for gender equality
The Plan calls for the implementation of a series of initiatives that include the establishment of gender-neutral workplaces, the incorporation of female officers in all operational units and the formation of balanced patrols. Likewise, the presence of women in decision-making bodies will be promoted, with the incorporation of an officer on the Management Board, to ensure a gender perspective in strategic decisions.
A commitment to the feminization of the police force
The Chief Intendant of the Guàrdia Urbana, Manel Vázquez, has highlighted that this initiative reinforces his objective of feminizing the Tarragona police. Vázquez commented that, despite having doubled the number of women in the force, with a total of 36 officers, there is still a long way to go to reach the percentages of other police forces at a national and European level.
The importance of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Plan
The Gender and Equal Opportunities Plan 2024-2027 represents the third attempt by the council to implement policies of real equality between women and men within the municipal administration. Vázquez has pointed out that this plan is essential to continue moving towards a fairer and more inclusive work environment, overcoming the inequalities that still persist.
Reflections on the future of the Guàrdia Urbana
By incorporating the Equality Plan, the Guàrdia Urbana is positioned not only to comply with equality regulations, but also to be an example of a promoter of a work environment that values diversity and inclusion. This evolution can have a positive impact not only within the police force, but also in Tarragona society in general, setting a precedent for future generations.
