Key date for church
The conclave meeting to choose the 267th Pope already has a fixed date: on Wednesday, May 7. This decision was made by more than 180 cardinals during the V General Congregation, held on April 28, where they have shared 20 presentations on the future of the Church. In this session, three new members of the commission have also been appointed to support the Cardinal Camarlenc: Reinhard Marx, Luis Antonio Tagle and Dominique Mamberti.
Preparations and reflection
The next meeting of the Cardinals is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at 9:00 am, local time in Rome. In this session, the Don Donato Ogliari, abbot of the Basilica of Sant Pau Extramurs, will guide a meditation that seeks to prepare the participants for the important task that awaits them. These meetings will be held until May 6, with exceptions on Thursday 1st and Sunday, May 4, with the aim of addressing crucial issues for the Church.
Conclave regulations
The beginning of the conclave will be governed by the rules established in the apostolic constitution of John Paul II, a Dominici Gregis university, which was updated by Benedict XVI in June 2007 and again in February 2013. This regulation stipulates that the conclave is convened between the fifteenth and the twentieth day after the Pope’s passage, after a period of novice dedicated to his memory. In practical terms, cardinals must wait fifteen days for the absent meeting, which can be extended up to twenty days if justified.
Cardinal school faculties
According to Motu Proprio Normas Nonnullas, cardinals have the opportunity to advance the start of the conclave if all voters are present. Thus, efficiency in the call could be a decisive factor in the process.
Arrival of the cardinals
Currently, the arrival of cardinals from various parts of the world to Rome is still waiting. All of them will stay at the Casa Santa Marta, the Vatican Residence where Pope Francis has decided to live, choosing not to occupy the traditional papal apartment.
Participant Cardinal List
According to the latest reports provided by Catalonia Christian, the list of cardinals that will participate in the conclave has been affected by last -minute casualties, such as that of Cardinal Antonio Cañizares and the exclusion of Angelo Becciu. Thus, a total of 134 cardinals is expected to be present for the vote.
