Capture of an organized band
Four individuals, two men and two women, have been arrested by the Mossos d’Esquadra in Lleida, after being indicated as suspects of an ingenious robbery in a parking lot of a local supermarket. The ages of the detainees range between 25 and 32 years.
The ingenious method of theft
The events occurred on Wednesday at noon. A woman approached a victim’s vehicle, simulating an incident by pointing out some coins on the ground. When leaving the car to investigate, the woman left her hand bag disregarded, which was quickly stolen by the accomplices.
The complaint and the rapid police response
The victim, realizing the lack of her bag, filed a complaint detailing the appearance of the thief and mentioning that her phone was inside the bag, which would facilitate its location.
Police and capture operation
With the description provided, the agents initiated a search. The suspects were located on the A-2 highway, when they tried to flee to Barcelona. During the persecution, they got rid of several objects, but were finally arrested in the vicinity of Cervera.
Criminal history
When questioned at the La Segarra police station, it was discovered that three of the detainees had a criminal record for similar crimes in various locations in Catalonia. In addition, they were traveling in a rental car.
Evidence found in the vehicle
Within the vehicle, the police found a restarted mobile phone, several costumes used in theft, and a series of tools such as a metal hook and a magnet, which served to deactivate safety sensors in stores.
Stolen object recovery
Thanks to geolocation, the agents managed to recover the stolen phone, as well as a bag containing other value objects, including money and jewelry.
Consequences and future of the case
The result of this operation left the detainees with a loot of approximately 1,000 euros in cash, in addition to several jewels. The investigations continue to determine the origin of the objects and the second telephone found.
Those involved have been made available to the Court of Cervera, where they will face the consequences of their criminal actions.
