Tips to save fuel in vehicles

Regular maintenance of the vehicle

It is advisable to carry out periodic checks on the vehicle to ensure its proper operation. This includes checking the tire pressure, tuning the engine, checking the exhaust system and cleaning the filters.

Plan the route in advance

It is useful to know the route before leaving to optimize fuel consumption. There are applications that provide routes with fewer delays and sections where you can drive in long gears, which allows you to save kilometers.

Reduce unnecessary burden

Carrying heavy objects during the journey increases the aerodynamic resistance and makes the engine work harder. It is advisable to remove everything that is not necessary during the trip.

Control the speed

Driving at a steady speed helps reduce fuel consumption. It is recommended to use the cruise speed option if the vehicle has it.

Drive gently

Avoiding sudden acceleration and sudden braking helps reduce fuel consumption. This is especially important for motorbikes, where it is advisable to take advantage of the width of the lane to better handle corners.

Use air conditioning correctly

Depending on the circumstances, you can choose to drive with the windows down or turn on the air conditioning. Driving with the windows down is more efficient at speeds below 90 km/h, while at higher speeds it is better to use the air conditioning to reduce consumption.

Shift to low revs

Driving at lower revs, especially on flat roads, helps to optimize fuel consumption. In petrol vehicles, it is recommended to change gears between 2,000 and 2,500 revolutions, while in diesel cars the reference is between 1,500 and 2,000 revolutions.

For example, according to the RACC, driving at 60 km/h in third gear consumes 8.9 liters per 100 kilometers, while in fifth gear it drops to 7.2 liters.
