Together for Catalonia asks to hold the electoral debate in Catalan, Basque and Galician

Together for Catalonia calls for linguistic diversity in the electoral debate

Junts per Catalunya has sent a letter to Radiotelevisió Española (RTVE) in which it asks to be able to hold the debate on the next 6 June for the European elections in Catalan, Basque and Galician. The campaign director of the candidacy led by Toni Comín, Aleix Sarri, sends the letter to the Director of RTVE News Content, Josep Vilar Grebol, in which he highlights that Comín is in exile and that it will be Sarri himself who starring in the debate, as number 3 of the candidacy. Junts states its intention to participate in this debate in Catalan and that the request, they say, aims to “highlight the linguistic and cultural diversity of the State and ensure that Catalan has the status it deserves in the state public television under conditions of equality with Spanish”.

The demand to include Basque and Galician in the debate

Likewise, they also ask that Basque and Galician, as official languages of the State, can also be present. From Junts, they appreciate the invitation to the electoral debate in the run-up to the European elections on June 9 as an “instrument to bring our proposals to the public” and contrast them with the rest of the political formations.

Toni Comín criticizes the demonstration of the Popular Party

Previously, the Junts candidate for the European elections, Toni Comín, called the Popular Party’s demonstration against amnesty this past Sunday “surreal”. In an interview, precisely, on La 1, Comín considers that the only amnesty with legality problems is the one of 1977, because “it amnestied crimes of the Franco regime”. “The memorialist organizations tell us that they collide with problems of international legality”, assures Comín, who has also defended that the amnesty in the process that will be approved this week by Congress is fully legal.

Together for Catalonia objectives for the European elections

Comín has defended that they have ripped this amnesty from the PSOE “like a toothpick”. “It is not just a success for Junts, but for the whole of Catalan society”, Comín has defended, who considers that this amnesty “rectifies” what the justice system has done wrong. Comín points out that his goal for 9-J is to get three MEPs. “The polls give us two deputies, at least,” claims Comín. Likewise, he has put the fight against climate change and a reform of the EU as priorities of his candidacy. “The fiscal and banking union must be completed and the Union’s budget can be doubled from 1 to 2%. This is where our welfare is at stake, due to the geopolitical battle with China and the United States”, defends the candidacy de Junts, which bets on investing in innovation as the United States and China are doing.

Junts per Catalunya’s position on the recognition of Palestine and the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Together, he also celebrated the Spanish State’s recognition of the Palestinian State, but, at the same time, he called the position of the Spanish government “hypocritical”, because it is one of the few executives that does not recognize Kosovo as a state and does not recognize the ‘self-determination of Western Sahara. Regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Comín has been in favor of helping the country led by Zelenski. “Ukraine is protected by the international right to defend itself. What Russia has done is to violate international law and commit war crimes. We have a duty to help it,” he defended.
