A New Vision for Local Culture
The recently presented Strategic Culture Plan 2025-2030 of La Seu d’Urgell highlights the need for a renewed approach to cultural access. With the aim of making culture more accessible and enriching for all citizens, it proposes the creation of specialized cultural infrastructures that encourage artistic expression and community participation.
Cultural Infrastructures: A Step Forward
One of the most outstanding proposals includes the construction of a new stage and music space, which would serve as a platform for artistic events and concerts. In addition, the improvement of the Cal Pensament Art Center and the creation of a Municipal School of the Arts that integrates and expands the current art schools, thus taking advantage of the unused resources of the cultural center Les Monges, are contemplated.
Optimization of Existing Spaces
The study also underlines the importance of clearly defining the uses of the multipurpose spaces already available, such as the Sant Domènec hall and the El Passeig civic center, to ensure that their possibilities are exploited to the fullest.
Cultural Programming Adapted to the Community
Another pillar of the plan is the creation of a municipal cultural program that adapts to the diverse needs of the population. The need for a comprehensive review of current cultural activities is evident, as well as establishing a system to collect data on citizen participation and analyze the various audiences.
Strength and Collaboration in the Cultural Sector
The Strategic Plan not only addresses the improvement of infrastructures, but also proposes a reinforcement of coordination between the different cultural agents in the municipality. This implies a closer collaboration between cultural institutions and related areas, with the aim of optimizing management and cultural offer.
Cultural Governance and Leadership
In addition, the study suggests the creation of a Cultural Council to facilitate the governance of the cultural ecosystem of La Seu d’Urgell, with the aim of positioning the city as a cultural reference in the Pyrenean region.
The City Council’s Vision
Joan Barrera, Mayor of La Seu d’Urgell and Head of Culture and Heritage, has expressed his desire for this Strategic Plan to go beyond a simple document. His aspiration is for it to become a roadmap to integrate culture as a fundamental element in the social and economic fabric of the city, thus helping to preserve and enhance local cultural identity.
A Promising Future
The conclusions of the plan have been presented to local authorities and cultural sector professionals by David Ribes and Danielle Bishop of Bissap Lab, highlighting the importance of this project for the future cultural evolution of La Seu d’Urgell. The implementation of this plan could mark the beginning of a new era for culture in the city, with a more inclusive and dynamic approach.
