The vindication of the figure of Sebastià Campos Terré
Tortosa City Council is preparing an event in honor of Sebastià Campos Terré on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of his execution during the Franco regime. Campos Terré, known for being the director of the republican newspaper El Pueblo, was murdered in Camp de la Bota in Barcelona on July 5, 1939 after a very summary trial. This tribute coincides with the launch of the ‘Tortosine Memories’ cycle, which seeks to rescue the relevant figures during the Civil War and the Franco regime in Tortosa.
An act of remembrance and vindication
Mar Lleixà, councilor for Democratic Memory of the City Council, has highlighted the importance of remembering Sebastià Campos, a figure who has been silenced for many years. Leixà has stressed the need to recognize the suffering of the victims of the Franco regime and their families, stating that it is essential to honor those who fought for democracy and a fairer society.
The cycle ‘Tortoise Memories’
During an act of commemoration of drunkards shot and killed in Franco’s prisons, Mar Lleixà has announced the launch of the ‘Tortoise Memories’ cycle. This event commemorates the nearly 350 Ebran victims shot and killed in Franco’s prisons between 1938 and 1948, 43 of whom were from Tortosa. On this day, there was the presence of relatives of the victims and a conference by the historian Francesc Tolosana.
