Ulldemolins celebrates the tribute to the rector Mn. Joan Roig Montserrat

A recognition of the trajectory and involvement of Mn. John Roig

On Saturday, May 18, the municipality of Ulldemolins celebrated an emotional tribute to its rector, Mn. Joan Roig Montserrat, who has been named Adoptive Son of this village in the Priorat. The institutional event took place in the 1 d’Octubre room of the Ulldemolins Civic Center and was attended by Archbishop Joan Planellas, as well as the participation of residents of Ulldemolins and other municipalities where Mn. Joan Roig has served as rector. The tribute day began with a gloss dedicated to the honored presbyter, interpreted by glossator Laia Pedrol, accompanied by the playing of the tambourine.

A recognition of his involvement with the town of Ulldemolins

During the event, the mayor of Ulldemolins, Sergi Méndez, read the agreement of the municipal council and the Council of entities of Ulldemolins by which Mn. Joan Roig is named adopted son of the municipality. In his speech, the mayor highlighted the cultural and social trajectory of Mn. Roig, as well as his involvement with the village of Ulldemolins. He highlighted his ability to connect with people and to undertake projects with people from different fields and backgrounds, bringing talent to the municipality. Mr. Joan Roig thanked the tribute and recited poems dedicated to various Marian invocations venerated in the area.

After the institutional event, the entourage moved to the square where Mn. Joan Roig usually spends time sitting on a bench. This square, since this Saturday, bears the name of the current rector of the Parish of Sant Jaume d’Ulldemolins. In the church square, a folk dance of the municipality was performed that has been recovered, and the event continued inside the parish church with the interpretation of joys by Mn. Joan Roig for the Prades Cor and an organ concert by Mons. Valentí Miserachs, composer of the music for many of the joys of Mn. John

In his speech, Archbishop Joan Planellas emphasized the gratitude for the experience of humanity that Mn. Joan Roig transmits through his faith and hope in Jesus Christ. He encouraged the residents of Ulldemolins to make this torch of faith last and to continue the legacy of Mn. Joan in Catalan language and literature, as well as in service to the poor and marginalized. The tribute to Mn. Joan Roig was a recognition of his dedication and vocation.

A popular act to close the tribute

To close this emotional tribute, a popular event was held in the afternoon, with the recital of the poetic work of Mn. Joan Roig, the performance of the harpist Anna Amigó and the screening of the documentary Mn. Joan Roig and Montserrat, a life of commitment and vocation.
