An unforgettable astronomical moment
The Montsec Astronomical Park, under the management of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), opens its doors this Saturday, March 29 for a unique experience: the observation of the first solar eclipse of the year. This phenomenon, which can be appreciated from Àger between 10:59 h and 12:38 pm, promises to offer a spectacular vision with a partial eclipse that will reduce sunlight by 26.9%.
Eclipse details and its visual impact
During this eclipse, attendees will be able to notice a change in the environment, with a decrease of 16.3% in the intensity of light. The Terres de Ponent are presented as the best observation point in Catalonia, with morning sessions that will allow visitors to enjoy this astronomical event with telescopes, always with the expert advice of the park’s technical staff.
Observation and security sessions
Attendees will have the opportunity to contemplate the eclipse safely, as approved telescopes and glasses are designed specifically for the observation of solar phenomena. Tickets to participate in this experience can be purchased through the Astronomical Park website: www.parcastronomic.cat.
Observation from Vall de Núria
In addition, those who wish to live the experience in a mountain environment can do it at Vall de Núria station, also managed by FGC. There, astronomers will prepare an observation point with the appropriate material, including chairs and loungers for the comfort of attendees.
Complementary activities
The activity in Vall de Núria will take place from 10:45 h to 12:45 h, with the possibility of observing the sun through projection techniques and a model at the scale of the Sun that will help explain the phenomenon.
Way to a bright future
This eclipse is not only an isolated event, it marks the beginning of an exciting period for lovers of astronomy. Between 2026 and 2028, the Iberian Peninsula will witness a ‘Iberian treble’, with three consecutive solar eclipses, a very common event that promises to attract the attention of thousands.
A rare and fascinating phenomenon
Solar eclipses occur when the moon blocks sunlight, creating an impressive visual spectacle. Although the new moon occurs monthly, its perfect alignment with the Earth and the Sun is a rare event. This precise alignment is what allows us to have the opportunity to enjoy these fascinating astronomical shows.
