Start of remodeling works
This week has begun an ambitious transformation in the Church Square of Alcarràs, which will mark the first step of a series of urban interventions funded by a grant from the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The aim is to renew public spaces to improve the quality of life of the neighbors.
An open space and accessible
The works plan to unify the level of the square, eliminating the distinctions between sidewalks and roads, with the aim of creating an open space that facilitates the celebration of events such as the opening speech. Although the slope will be modified, it will be maintained to prevent two different heights and ensure accessibility to adjacent buildings.
Declarations of the mayor
Gerard Companys, Mayor of Alcarràs, said that “this set of actions is possible thanks to a subsidy that we could not miss.” He emphasized that the remodeling would seek to transform the image of the square, giving it more prominence and reception for the community.
Future of other public spaces
The Deputy Mayor, Jordi Castany, has advanced that more actions are expected in other areas such as the Plaça Quelet, Plaça del Triangle and Doctor Castells Street. The criteria for receiving the subsidy include the creation of parking spaces and their conversion into areas friendly for citizens.
Continued improvements
Agustí Camarasa, Councilor for Urban Planning, emphasized that these interventions are those that meet the requirements of the grant, but said that other improvements in the streets would continue to be made through the brigade of works or other sources of funding.
A new village model
The City Council seeks with these reforms to move towards a more accessible, safe and focused town, where public spaces gain importance in the daily life of its inhabitants.
Financial details and timing
The grant granted amounts to € 300,000, with the first phase of the works awarded for € 176,253.40 with VAT included, in the company NATUR Grup Immoshop S.L. The deadline for the completion of the works is in August, just in time for the Summer Festival. The City Council is grateful for the patience and support of the community during the remodeling process.
