Valencian councilors will participate in an event in Ecuador

A group of Valencian councilors will have the opportunity to participate in a special event in Ecuador. This meeting is part of an international municipalist cooperation project promoted by the Valencian Fund for Solidarity. During the 13th and 14th of July, a total of 9 women with positions of mayors, deputy mayors and councilors from different counties and political parties will travel to Ecuador to attend the National Meeting of Women Local Authorities .

Objectives of the National Meeting of Women Local Authorities

The National Meeting of Women Local Authorities has as its main objective to be a space for dialogue, exchange of learning and experiences between women in positions of authority in Ecuador and the Valencian Community. This event seeks to strengthen the processes of access to political power and local management by women, as well as to develop spaces for interaction between women local authorities and women’s organizations. It is also intended to create an exchange network between women local authorities in Ecuador and the Valencian Community.

Topics to be discussed at the Meeting

During the National Meeting of Women Local Authorities, different presentations and work tables will be held on topics relevant to women in positions of authority. Some of the topics that will be discussed include women’s political participation and leadership, gender-based political violence, gender agendas as participation mechanisms and proposals for public policies for equality, as well as local management and accountability.

Project ‘Weaving the empowerment of women local authorities’

This event will also be used to follow up on the municipal international cooperation projects of the Valencian Solidarity Fund. One of these projects is the ‘Weaving the empowerment of women local authorities’, which aims to promote gender equality in Ecuadorian local governments. Through this project, it seeks to strengthen the management capacities of women local authorities and promote networks with local women’s organizations to create, position and implement a political agenda for equality. In addition, the exchange of experiences and knowledge between women from councils in Ecuador and the Valencian Community is encouraged in order to enrich each other in terms of municipal policies for equality.
