A New Economic Punishment for Families
In a recent statement, the political group JUNTS – Som Vallbona has expressed its disagreement with the proposal for a new garbage rate promoted by the CUP and ERC government. They consider that these changes represent a frontal attack on the economy of the local residents and businesses.
Significant Impact on Fees
According to the data presented, the increase in the normal rate will drastically affect citizens, starting with a base amount of €250 per home per year. The reductions will be made exclusively based on the contributions to the organic fraction, leaving aside other considerations.
Alarming Increments
TOGETHER points out that the 32% of homes with the lowest contribution will see a 100% increase in their rate, while those who contribute less than 46 times a year will face an even more drastic increase of 127%.
The Impact on Local Businesses
Small businesses do not escape this increase. Businesses of less than 100 square meters will see a 62% increase in their rates, going from €250 to €407.38. Industrial premises larger than 1,000 square meters will also experience an increase of 80%.
Dangers to Economic Viability
This situation is considered by JUNTS as a danger to the viability of small businesses, which already struggle against the disproportionate competition of large corporations.
Improvement Proposals Ignored
The political formation has historically defended the need for a change in the waste collection system, but insists that this must be accompanied by transparent information and the active participation of citizens.
Criticism of Municipal Management
The spokesman for JUNTS, Pere Masagué, has emphasized that a more efficient management could have avoided such high increases, suggesting that a better inclusion of services such as the collection of bulky items would have been beneficial.
Law 7/2022 and Its Implications
JUNTS also recalled that the current regulations on waste collection, approved after Law 7/2022, seek to make those who pollute the most pay more. They consider that the use of this law to justify the increase in rates is inappropriate.
A Lonely Vote
Faced with this situation, JUNTS – Som Vallbona has voted against this proposal, stressing that it not only harms the people, but also shows the inability of the current government to manage the interests of the citizens. Interestingly, they were the only group to oppose this decision.
