A new leadership in the horizon
The Auditorium and Orchestra Consortium has made a significant decision with the appointment of Víctor Medem as new director. This choice, which comes after a comprehensive selection process started in February, marks a new stage that will begin in July, with a four -year contract that can be extended.
An expected relief
Robert Brufau, who has been in office for six years, communicated his decision not to continue for the next season, leaving a gap that Medem is ready to fill. Medem has expressed his emotion and commitment to the project: ‘I take care of this responsibility with enthusiasm and energy, and I want to work collaboratively to make the Auditorium an inclusive space for all music lovers’.
Experience and vision
With more than 25 years of experience in the music world, the valuation commission emphasized the background of Medem in artistic direction, music production and cultural management. His deep knowledge of the auditorium, as well as his ‘ambitious and solid’ project, have been key factors for his selection.
A bet on internationalization
The Medem Plan includes maintaining a strong international presence, while strengthening the bond with the local public. His vision for the Barcelona and National Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) emphasizes the importance of excellence and innovation, as well as the growth of the Barcelona Municipal Band (BMB).
A path full of achievements
Since 2016, Medem has led the Schubertíada, a chamber music festival that has gained recognition. He has also been the creator of the Barcelona City Festival Classica, a project that unites several cultural institutions in the city.
International collaborations
His role as a consultant has been essential in the development of symphonic cycles in prestigious institutions such as the ElBphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Philharmonie in Berlin, as well as working with renowned artists at European level.
A commitment to education
Medem has also devoted part of his time to teaching, teaching institutions such as the ESMUC and the Liceu Conservatory, contributing to the training of new generations of musicians.
A promising future
With the entry of Víctor Medem at the helm of the Auditorium, a new air is expected for this cultural institution. His vision for an inclusive and dynamic space promises to enrich the Barcelona music scene, ensuring that the auditorium continues to be a benchmark in the cultural landscape.
