A rapidly changing landscape
This week has started with calm and stable weather, with a prevailing anticyclone that has allowed us to enjoy pleasant temperatures during the day and cold ones at night. Inland areas have experienced foggy mornings, but the sun has been the protagonist in many areas, improving conditions for daily activity.
The arrival of cold and snowfall
However, weather forecasts indicate an imminent change. Meteorologist Roberto Brasero, from Antena 3, has warned that Thursday will be the turning point, marked by the arrival of a polar air mass that will transform the spring atmosphere into a winter scenario.
Thursday weather conditions
Clouds will begin to cover the sky in the Mediterranean area, with the possibility of showers in the Balearic Islands and the Alboran Sea. In the Canary Islands, clouds and light precipitation are expected in the more mountainous islands.
The impact of Friday’s front
A radical change is expected on Friday with the arrival of a rain front that will cross the peninsula. This front will bring rain to many regions, although some areas of the southeast and the Balearic Islands will be excluded from precipitation.
Unexpected snowfall
Brasero has highlighted that snowfall will be more frequent than initially thought, with the possibility of snow up to 700 meters in the north of the peninsula, while in the rest of the country snowfall will be recorded at altitudes above 1200-1500 meters.
Expectations for the weekend
Heading into the weekend, although the front will pass quickly, persistent rain is expected in the south and east. The forecast is uncertain, with the possibility that the front will move south, causing storms in Andalusia, or east, generating a storm in the Mediterranean that would affect the Balearic Islands.
Snowfall in the mountains
As for snowfall, the eastern Pyrenees are expected to receive snow from 1200-1400 meters, with a possible drop in altitude to 500 meters in the western Pyrenees. Cold will dominate the panorama during the weekend, especially during the nights and mornings.
Reflections on climate change
As we enter this new meteorological phase, it is important to reflect on how changes in global climate may influence local weather conditions. Climate variability can lead to extreme weather events, and preparing for these changes is essential for the safety and well-being of the population.
