A new leadership in the party
Xavier Godàs, the candidate aspiring to lead ERC, has expressed his view on Oriol Junqueras’ candidacy, which he considers to resemble an “absolute monarchy.” In a recent interview with ACN, Godàs defended that his team represents the “Enlightenment,” in contrast to Junqueras’ approach.
The struggle between aristocracy and people
Militància Decidim, Junqueras’ group, calls itself “the people”, while Godàs refuses to be labeled as part of the party’s “aristocracy”. In his words, Godàs emphasizes that he comes from a working-class background, with a family history that includes struggles and sacrifices, and states: “We are the common thread”.
Criticism of Garreta’s statements
In another aspect, Godàs addressed the controversial statements of Saül Garreta, candidate for Militància Decidim, who made an unfortunate comment about Pasqual Maragall and Alzheimer’s. Godàs did not hesitate to describe Garreta as “incompetent” and urged Junqueras to disassociate himself from him immediately.
A commitment to internal cohesion
Godàs has made it clear that, if his candidacy wins the congress, he will maintain the current structure of the party. He has expressed his desire to see figures such as Junqueras, Marta Rovira and Pere Aragonès continue to contribute to the party. “We need all the capital, it would not be strange if he did,” Godàs added about Aragonès.
A vision of the future
Looking ahead to the congress on November 30, Godàs has stated that his candidacy seeks a democratic and constructive debate, with no intention of carrying out purges. “We will not remove anyone from the work they are doing,” he assured, reaffirming his will to work for unity and cohesion within the party.
Final thoughts on change
Godàs concluded his presentation with a forceful statement: “We are the change, and change is inexorable.” This phrase encapsulates his determination to transform ERC and to offer a new direction that can include diverse voices and promote a richer and more inclusive internal debate.
