A new Ukrainian strategy in Kursk
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that the Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kursk region shows that the Kremlin’s threats of retaliation are nothing more than pure propaganda. In a strong message, he has urged his allies to review the restrictions that limit the use of Ukrainian weaponry against targets inside Russian territory.
Military advance and territory recovered
Zelensky has highlighted that Ukrainian forces have managed to recover more than 1,250 square kilometers and 92 settlements in the Kursk region, a milestone that demonstrates their ability to operate in hostile territory.
A change of perspective on the red lines
In a meeting with diplomats, the Ukrainian president declared that the concept of ‘red lines’ has proved ineffective, stressing the need for bolder decisions by its allies. “The world must recognize that courage is the engine of this war: ours and our partners’,” Zelenskiy said.
Military actions inside Russia
Ukraine recently destroyed a third bridge over the Seym River in Kursk, a step that is part of a broader strategy to establish a military security zone inside Russia.
Ukrainian defenses under pressure in Pokrovsk
Ukrainian forces are in a defensive situation in the city of Pokrovsk, where the Russian army has been steadily advancing. Reports indicate that Russian troops were only 10 kilometers from the city, prompting a mass evacuation of civilians.
The impact of the evacuation
Residents, including families with children, have begun to leave Pokrovsk following orders from the authorities, who have warned of the urgency of the situation. Currently, approximately 53,000 people still remain in the city.
An uncertain future for peace talks
On the other hand, Moscow has ruled out the possibility of holding peace talks with Ukraine in the immediate future. Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov has stated that they are not ready for dialogue, especially after the recent events in Kursk. Ukraine, for its part, demands the full withdrawal of Russian troops before considering any negotiations.
Both sides seem far from reaching an agreement, leaving the future of the conflict in a state of uncertainty.
