Changes in the Popular Party

New additions to the Genoa team

There are changes in Genoa that are generating concern among members of the Popular Party. In recent weeks, Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Borja Sémper have added well-known former Ciudadanos advisors to their teams, which has aroused suspicion and nervousness in the popular ranks. The new additions are Andrea Martínez Molina, Jorge San Miguel Lobeto and Javier García Toni. Martínez joined Feijóo’s team last December with a salary of 55,612 euros. Previously, she had been an advisor to Ciudadanos, first with Albert Rivera and then with Inés Arrimadas. On the other hand, San Miguel and García work in the communication area with Sémper, with salaries of 54,222 and 63,557 euros, respectively. Both have also been linked to Ciudadanos.

Concern in Genoa

The arrival of these advisors has generated nervousness in Genoa, where renewals of positions in the Management Committee and the Executive Committee are expected after the Galician elections. According to The Objective, in this context it is possible that there may be departures of advisors, which has raised suspicions about these new signings.

Galician elections and their impact on the PP

It is expected that there will be movements within the Popular Party after the Galician elections. However, the result of these elections will determine the direction of change. Things are more difficult for the PP than they might initially seem. Galicia has historically been a bastion of the party, but this hegemony could be lost next Sunday, according to some polls. This would be a hard blow for the popular leader, who has lost a lot of support since he was elected to replace Pablo Casado.

The PP strategy in the Galician elections

Feijóo, who has led the PP in Galicia for years, has thrown himself into the electoral campaign and is now seeking the vote of Vox supporters. At first glance, the far-right party has no chance of entering the Galician parliament. For this reason, the Galician PP has Vox’s votes in its sights. “Either we unite the votes or sovereign left-wing nationalism arrives,” Feijóo declared at a rally. “I ask you to unite the votes as we did in the year 20, with 48% of the votes,” he remarked, adding: “any vote that does not go to the PP is for the BNG to govern.” Other party leaders have followed the same strategy and have gone directly to far-right voters to try to seduce them and secure control of the Xunta once again.
