Internal conflicts and serious accusations
The political space that we know today as Junts, and which previously had other denominations, is experiencing a situation of internal disorientation that manifests itself in several episodes. The most recent has been the controversy with two female deputies who have denounced harassment and sexism by their colleagues in the parliamentary group. One of them has been removed from the group, but she does not want to leave her record and will become “not attached”. The other is on medical leave. This conflict reflects the rift between the “borrassista” and the “turulista” sector, which has been going on for years and which was not resolved with the party congress held in l’Hospitalet in July 2022.
Disaffections and incomprehensible movements
In addition to internal problems, Junts has also taken the lead in incomprehensible actions that have generated disaffection among its members and supporters. One of them has been the position of his formation regarding the amnesty law, which has caused the ex-minister of the interior, Miquel Sàmper, to tear up his party card. This decision in the Congress of Deputies can only be understood within the logic of last-minute master moves and astracanadas to get out in the media.
A process of decomposition that does not stop
Junts is the result of a process of decomposition that began in 2015, when the old federation that had governed Catalonia for many years was dissolved. Since then, it has changed names several times and undergone splits. This trend does not seem to be ending, as new divisions appear with each new fragment. This situation could be seen as a spectacle to observe from a distance, if it were not for the fact that it affects one of the main actors of independence, who makes spasmodic, unpredictable and incomprehensible movements, becoming an unreliable interlocutor, always depending on the result of the last internal battle.
