Catalonia amends the patient autonomy law to facilitate last wills We want informed readers. And you?

The document addressed to health professionals can be formalized in front of the doctors themselves

The full Parliament has today approved a change in the legislation on the rights of information related to the patient’s health and autonomy, as well as in the clinical documentation, in order to facilitate the obtaining of the last will document.

This proposal, which has been processed by single reading and has been promoted by PSC-Units, Junts and commons, has been accepted with the votes in favor of PSC, ERC, Junts, CUP, commons and Vox, while Cs and PP they have abstained.

The amendment includes a section that allows the document of last will to be formalized in front of doctors, instead of doing it only in front of notaries or with three witnesses, as was established until now.

Through this document, the patient can express the instructions that must be taken into account regarding the medical treatments that he might receive when he cannot make decisions personally.

The groups that have proposed this initiative, together with ERC, have presented two amendments so that the health professionals authorized to formalize the document are from the field of primary, hospital or socio-health care, preferably from patient reference centers.
