Widespread and heavy precipitation in the northeast
The country has dawned with overcast skies and weak and scattered rain in many places. However, as the morning progresses, precipitation will become more frequent and intense, especially in the north-east quadrant and occasionally in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. According to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, in the afternoon the rains will affect most of the eastern half of the territory, and they may also appear in other areas in a more isolated and occasional way.
In the afternoon-evening, precipitation will reach the northern slopes of the Pyrenees and the Port massif. The regions most affected by the rains will be the Maresme, the Vallès Oriental, the Selva, the Gironès, the Garrotxa, the Baix Empordà and the Alt Empordà, where Meteocat has activated a warning for moderate danger of torrential rains, which could leave up to 20 liters per square meter in half an hour. In addition, the wind will blow strongly from the mestral and north winds, and will remain so until Tuesday or Wednesday. In the coming days, the rains will return and concentrate in the Pyrenees and the Alt Empordà, and from Thursday the weather will improve. Towards the weekend, there could be some scattered showers.
Snow in the Pyrenees and Civil Protection pre-alert
The snow level will gradually drop throughout the day, and will be between 1,200 and 1,300 meters, although in times of heavy rain it could drop even further. On the northern slopes of the Pyrenees and the Massif del Port, the snow level will reach 1,100-1,000 meters at night. Civil Protection has launched the pre-alert phase of the Special Snow Emergency Plan in Catalonia (Neucat), since snowfalls of more than 20 centimeters are expected in the Vall d’Aran, Alta Ribagorça and Pallars sovereign According to Meteocat, the heaviest snowfall will occur on Tuesday.
