Constitutional Challenge: Puente vs. García-Page

An explosive political confrontation

The Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, has sent a strong message to the Socialist President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, after his recent statements on terrorism and the Amnesty Law.

Puente, in an answer that may mark a turning point in the relationship between the leadership of the PSOE and the Castilla-Manxa delegation, stated: “Who has been on PSOE extraradio for quite some time is Mr. Page”, leaving journalists perplexed.

García-Page: The PSOE in the Extraradio of the Constitution

García-Page assured that the PSOE is “in the extra radius of the Constitution, about to step on the constitutional border” after the last agreement with Junts to include the crimes of terrorism in the Amnesty Law. He stressed that there is no “good and bad terrorism”.

Inauguration at Fitur and Constitutional Debate

During the inauguration of the Castilla-La Mancha stand at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), García-Page stated that the PSOE “is not a party that can be constitutionally doubted”, while ensuring that they have a clear commitment with the Magna Carta.

Óscar Puente, from Fitur, responded to comments on the latest amendment agreed between PSOE and Junts, stating that what is there are “suits tailored to prevent Parliament from legislating”. He urged action and stop talking about the issue, highlighting the impeachment of Carles Puigdemont.

“Some act and it seems that when we act, it bothers them that we are critical. We will act too, that’s what we’re doing,” concluded Puente.

Conclusion: An Uncertain Future

The confrontation between Puente and García-Page paints an uncertain future for the relationship between the leadership of the PSOE and the delegation from Castilla-Manxa. Differences over the Constitution and the Amnesty Law continue to fuel the political debate.
