These three campsites located in l’Escala have achieved Biosphere certification, which recognizes their respect for the environment and their continuous improvement in the area of ​​sustainability. They announced this in a press release, where they highlighted that they are part of the Girona Camping Association, which has been working for years to make the sector a benchmark for sustainable tourism, reducing its carbon footprint and optimizing water management. The Biosphere certification is voluntary and is granted by the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR), an independent entity that promotes actions and sustainability programs in the tourism sector.

A commitment to people and the planet from wecamp

Albert Montesinos, CEO of wecamp, expressed his pride for this recognition and explained his vision: “From wecamp we want to contribute to the development of an economy that is more responsible and respectful of people and the planet. We promote sustainable tourism in of the framework of the ODS 2030, promoted by the United Nations, and which we assume as our own challenges and part of our essence. Following this commitment, we have as a criterion to certify all our campsites with the Biosphere certification, which endorses the efforts they make in this sense all the people who make up the group”.

Concrete actions for sustainability and the effective management of water resources

The three Girona campsites that have obtained Biosphere certification have as a priority objective for this 2024 contracting renewable energy in all their establishments. In addition, they use LED lighting, timers and sensors in common areas, among other measures. The products, services and experiences they offer promote sustainability, knowledge and responsible enjoyment of the environment. Bet on technology and new innovative methods that improve the customer experience and at the same time contribute to saving or better use of resources and information, through Apps and QR codes. On the other hand, they carry out sustainable management of the community and its infrastructures in such a way as to contribute to the preservation of destiny. They stimulate participation in conservation and ecosystem protection activities, and encourage knowledge and learning in sustainable practices among the people who make up the wecamp team and among customers. In addition, they bet on the consumption of resources that generate less environmental impact and that can be recycled.

Support for entrepreneurship and local development

The three campsites also support entrepreneurship and local development through the consumption of local products and services; they bet on the recruitment of local talent; and favor the elimination of barriers that limit the integration of people for reasons of gender, origin or religion, sexual orientation, economic situation or other condition.

Wecamp, in collaboration with a team of architects and experts in energy efficiency, has designed a specific plan to take advantage of local resources, reduce as much as possible the carbon footprint, and use modern, biodegradable and natural materials such as solid hall In addition, the three campsites promote selective collection and have a fleet of electric vehicles.

Other campsites in Girona with Biosphere certification

The wecamp Santa Cristina, wecamp Cadaqués and wecamp Cala Montgó campsites are not the only ones in Girona to have achieved Biosphere certification. Previously, the Begur and Vidrà campsites, which are also part of the Association, had obtained this prestigious seal of sustainable tourism.
