Diversity of entry routes for agricultural vehicles
The various columns of agricultural vehicles heading towards Barcelona this Tuesday morning will converge at the main entry points of the city, that is to say, Diagonal and Meridiana avenues, towards the early afternoon and then make several journeys , some of them on foot through the interior, in a day of mobilizations in the agricultural sector that plans to bring to the city of Barcelona the protests that have been articulated throughout Catalonia in front of the serious situation of the peasantry and which add to those that have collapsed Europe in recent days.
Planned itineraries
In this context, columns of agricultural vehicles from different parts of the Catalan territory will arrive in Barcelona by the main communication routes, i.e. the AP-7, the A-2, the C-17, the C-16 , the C-58 and the C-33. The first mobilizations began at 7 am. Vic’s column goes down the C-17, to join the farmers of the Vallès, to enter Barcelona by the Meridiana avenue. Those in the Bages column have left Sant Fruitós via the C-16, and take the C-58, the C-33 and also enter via the Meridiana. All of them expect to get there after noon. As for the Ponent farmers, who make up the majority of the mobilized agricultural vehicles, they headed towards El Bruc with the intention of entering Barcelona via Avinguda Diagonal. Those coming from the Ebre and Tarragona will also arrive via the Diagonal, while those from Girona will join those arriving via the Meridiana.
Arrival and route times
The expected arrival times of the various columns are approximately from 1 p.m., always bearing in mind that the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, is expected to receive a representation of the farmers at the Generalitat around 5 p.m. The column from Girona could arrive around 2 pm, while the one from Lleida would arrive around 3 pm. Once they have arrived in the city, and with Diagonal and Meridiana avenues collapsed, the intention of the farmers is to head towards the city center to park their vehicles in the centre. Once there, the demonstrators will move on foot on a route that will pass by the Delegation of the Spanish Government (Mallorca Street), the headquarters of the European Commission (Passeig de Gràcia) and the Palau de la Generalitat (Plaza de Sant Jaume) .
Impact on traffic and recommendations
Therefore, the arrival of agricultural vehicles will cut off traffic on the main roads in and out of Barcelona – Diagonal and Meridiana – as well as the adjacent streets. Streets used to park agricultural vehicles and those included in planned journeys on foot will also be affected. In anticipation of the mobility problems that will arise as a result of these protests, Civil Protection recommends that the public avoid taking the car and choose to minimize travel by road.
