Save the clothes to save the planet

Selective collection of textile waste

From January 1, 2025, all municipalities will have to collect textile waste selectively. This measure is an initiative of the European Union to promote eco-design and facilitate the recycling of fashion items.

Waste law and producers’ responsibility

The future waste law, based on the circular economy, will give great responsibility to producers in the management of textile waste. This law seeks to reduce textile waste by 10% by 2025 and by 25% by 2030. In addition, the obligation to incorporate a line or corner of second-hand textiles on surfaces will be established commercial spaces over 1,200 m².

Digital passport of clothes

The European Union is working on the creation of a digital passport for clothes. This passport, based on blockchain technology, will allow consumers to analyze the sustainability of textile products and identify brands that are truly sustainable. This will help combat greenwashing and promote a more conscious purchase.

The importance of eco-design

Europe is putting a strong emphasis on eco-design as a strategy to facilitate the recycling of textile products. Ecodesign involves taking into account the collection and recycling of materials from the product design phase. This will reduce recycling costs and encourage the creation of fashion collections that are easier to recycle and reuse.

Circular fashion and other initiatives

Circular fashion is a model that seeks to reduce the environmental impact of the textile and clothing industry. This model promotes the reuse, recycling and repair of clothing. In Catalonia, the pact for circular fashion has been launched, a voluntary initiative that seeks to transform the sector towards a more sustainable model. In addition, other initiatives such as second-hand clothing stores and clothing rentals are being promoted.

Citizen awareness and action

Citizen awareness is key to the proper management of textile waste. It is important that citizens understand the importance of collecting clothes selectively and reducing the consumption of textile products. In addition, the competent administration must provide the necessary resources and information to facilitate the collection and recycling of clothing.

The future of sustainable fashion

The future of fashion goes through a change of model towards sustainability and social responsibility. It is necessary to reduce the environmental impact of the textile industry and encourage a more conscious purchase. With the application of appropriate measures and the involvement of all actors, it is possible to build a future where fashion is more sustainable and respectful of the planet.
