Relevant information about the extension of the instruction
The judge of the Court of Inquiry 1, Joaquín Aguirre, has decided to extend for another six months the investigation of the Russian plot of the ‘trial’, with the aim of clarifying the possible connections between some of the investigated and individuals of Russian, German nationality or Italian
The extension will begin once the current deadline expires on February 27 and will allow the necessary evidence proceedings to be continued for the clarification of the case.
Personal relationships and hidden interests
During the review of the documentation, data was found that would confirm close personal relationships between those investigated and Russian citizens, some of whom held diplomatic positions and had ties to the Russian secret services.
According to Magistrate Aguirre, the interest of these individuals was to establish links of political and economic influence with the purpose of destabilizing democracy and the European Union. This situation could prompt Spain’s exit from the EU due to the unilateralism of Catalonia’s declaration of independence, which had the support of the Russian government.
Ongoing investigations
Judge Aguirre intends to continue investigating the relationships between those under investigation and Russian citizens. A meeting between the former Russian diplomat and Carles Puigdemont at the Casa dels Canonges in Barcelona stands out, which took place a few days before the unilateral declaration of independence on October 27, 2017.
Conversations between Víctor Terradellas, ex-responsible for international relations at CDC, and David Madí, high-ranking CDC official, have also been recorded. In addition, meetings of the former leader of Junts and trusted person of Puigdemont, Elsa Artadi, have been observed at the Colón hotel in Barcelona.
