The accident occurred near Orrua beach, in Getaria
The Basque Department of Security has reported that the rescue services have found the lifeless body of a man who had disappeared after the boat he was on with two other companions capsized in the waters of Getaria (Guipúzcoa). The event took place around 9:00 p.m. last Monday, when the boat capsized near Orrua beach, a place close to Zumaia but which belongs to the municipality of Getaria.
The other two occupants of the boat were rescued with hypothermia.
The boat was dragged by the current towards the rocks, where two of its occupants managed to reach the shore. Firefighters rescued them with signs of hypothermia and took them to a health center. The third occupant of the boat could not get out of the water and a search operation was activated in which members of the firefighters, Maritime Rescue, Ertzaintza and the Red Cross participated.
The body was found in the rocks around 11:10 p.m.
At around 11:10 p.m., firefighters located the body of the missing man on the rocks of Orrua beach and took him to dry land, where a doctor certified his death. During the search operation, the N-634 highway, where firefighters had installed a crane, was closed to traffic.
