A fire leaves several homes affected

A fire has affected several homes in Andorra la Vella. The flames originated in one of the balconies of a building and quickly spread to the rest of the property. The authorities had to deploy several fire brigades to control the fire

Deployment of emergency services

The firefighters had to deploy several meters of hose to access the streets where the affected building was located. In addition to the firefighters, several police patrols and traffic officers from the municipality of Andorra la Vella were also moved to the scene

Evacuation of homes

As a precaution, the authorities requested the temporary abandonment of homes in the affected area. The occupants of the building will not be able to return home tonight and have been relocated to apartments of friends and family

Cause of the fire

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started because of a cigarette that fell into a laundry bin on a neighbor’s balcony. The flames spread quickly and affected the facade of the building

Work of firefighters and scientific police

Firefighters worked intensively to control the fire and ensure there was no risk of reactivation. Once the flames were extinguished, the scientific police officers began their work of reconnaissance of the building’s facilities

Assessment of damages

It is still necessary to assess the damage caused by the fire, but in principle there would be no structural damage to the building. Authorities are checking adjacent buildings to rule out major damage

Presence of the authorities

Several units of the police, firefighters and traffic officers went to the scene of the fire. The minister responsible for Traffic and Parking, Xavier Surana, also made an appearance
