A great advance

Girona The chief executive of the Girona club, Delfí Geli, highlights the construction of the sports city in Vilablareix

The building permit is already a reality

After the news of the granting of the construction permit by the Vilablareix City Council was made public on Thursday, yesterday it was Girona’s turn, which through its president, Delfí Geli, expressed his satisfaction in a video posted on the club’s social networks. Thanks to the approval of the Girona council, the club has already announced what will be done in the first phase of the sports city on the grounds of La Massana. “The Vilablareix City Council has already granted us the building permit where in the coming days we will be able to start work on the two fields, where the first team will train, and together with the gym, changing rooms and staff offices technical as well as sports management”, explained Geli about the big club project and the first big property that Girona will have under the name of City Football Academy Girona (CFA Girona).

A change of quality

The first phase consists of moving all the facilities that are currently in La Vinya -PGA de Caldes de Malavella- and where the first team works every day. The most relevant, for the first team, will be the construction of two hybrid fields with the dimensions of Montilivi, as in La Vinya. But the construction will not be in prefabricated modules and temporary installations under roofs like now, but will be in construction and taking advantage of buildings such as the Massana farmhouse acquired by the club and which wants to preserve its architectural heritage, of great value . All the new offices will be there and it will be the institutional headquarters of the club.

A strategic objective

The president of the club assessed it this way: “The goal is that in the summer, at the beginning of the next season, the team can start training here. It is a strategic step for the growth of our entity, in a privileged place where all our teams and players will have the necessary conditions for the development of their talent.”

An investment for the future

Girona plans to invest 25 million euros in total for the new sports city, which will be built, as reported by the club, in three phases. The land will be 23 hectares and there will be a health park for the residents of Vilablareix. The club also plans, in the not-too-distant future, to bring the residence of Les Hortes, now to the Marists.
