Sumar stands apart from the proposal to cut judicial instructions

MadridThe Popular Party launched today in Congress up to five of its most forceful spokesmen against the Minister of the Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, with the aim of cornering him after the pronouncement of the Supreme Court prosecutors in favor of investigating Carles Puigdemont for the crime of terrorism, against the theses of the Spanish government. Cuca Gamarra first tried, and then Miguel Tellado, Rafael Hernando, Elías Bendodo and ex-UPN Sergio Sayas. And as a bonus track an urgent interpellation of the always sharp Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo.

The most forceful, however, has been Tellado, current spokesperson of the parliamentary group

Tellado has stated: “In a normal country, prosecutors are not pressured”, although in the past the Popular Party did so on multiple occasions. In addition, he has accused the government of wanting to grant amnesty to those who committed violent acts during the protests in Catalonia, and has hinted that there have been contacts between the Popular Party and Junts to get the investiture of Mr. Feijóo. Bolaños responded by asking if everyone who does not support Feijóo’s investiture is considered a terrorist.

Sumar does not agree with the proposal to cut court instructions

The second vice-president and leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, has expressed her opposition to the proposal to change the criminal procedure law to cut judicial instructions. According to Díaz, this proposal is not going in the right direction. The Spanish government privately recognizes the complexity of this reform.

The peasantry debate

The control session in Congress has begun with a question from Alberto Núñez Feijóo to the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez. But Feijóo did not want to focus his intervention in Catalonia on a day marked by farmers’ protests. Instead, he has criticized the government for focusing on changes to the Prosecutor’s Office and has called for it to listen more to farmers and park its government’s environmental dogmatism. This control session has been more of a pulse between the Popular Party and Vox to capitalize on the protests of the agricultural sector.

The third question to Sánchez was asked by ERC deputy and ex-counselor of the region, Teresa Jordà, who defended small farmers and urged the Spanish government to be braver in its policies to guarantee decent prices for farmers. Sánchez has pledged to reform the food chain law to avoid sales at a loss. Also Isidre Gavín, from Junts, has asked the Minister of Agriculture about the protests, showing that both Catalan independence and the left do not want the extreme right to become strong in this sector.
