Campaign to promote diversity and equality in sport in Bocairent

Local teams and the City Council come together to make diversity and equality visible

On the occasion of February 19, International Day against LGBTIphobia in Sport, the local teams and Bocairent City Council have launched a campaign to promote diversity and equality in sport. The aim is to make visible and recognize the respect that all sexual orientations, identities and gender expressions deserve in the sports field.

Multicolored laces as a symbol of support

One of the main actions of the campaign is the delivery of multicolored cords to the players of the Bocairent sports clubs. These laces are worn on sneakers as a symbol of support and solidarity with the LGBTI+ community. This initiative has been carried out in different sports such as football, basketball and athletics.

A reminder of the importance of equality in sport

The date of February 19 commemorates the birth of Justin Fashanu, the first professional footballer to make his homosexuality public. This campaign seeks to claim equality and respect for LGBTI+ people in the sports field, remembering that all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, identity or gender expression, have the right to participate and enjoy sport without discrimination

A collective effort for positive change

The campaign has had the participation of the local teams, Bocairent City Council and different representatives of the sports community. All of them have shown their support and commitment to the promotion of diversity and equality in sport. This initiative is an example of how collaboration and collective awareness can contribute to positive change in society.

Sport as a tool for inclusion and respect

Sport has the power to bring people of different origins and identities together, creating a space where diversity is celebrated and respected. It is important to work to eliminate any form of discrimination and ensure that all people can participate fully and freely in sporting activity. This campaign in Bocairent is a step in this direction, reminding us that sport must always be a space of inclusion and respect for everyone.
