Hunger strike for peace in Palestine: Activists end their protest

After fifteen days, former CUP deputy Gabriela Serra, Llum Mascaray and Martí Olivella end their hunger strike for peace in Palestine.

After fifteen days of protest, activists Gabriela Serra, Llum Mascaray and Martí Olivella have decided to end their hunger strike in defense of peace in Palestine. This action has been announced by Gabriela Serra at Catalunya Ràdio.

Despite the end of the strike, Serra emphasized that the struggle for peace in Palestine continues. During the fifteen days of protest, the activists have been visited by political representatives and have managed to reach compromises with different groups in the Parliament of Catalonia.

An act of empathy and awareness

The hunger strike was an act of empathy with the people who suffer from the lack of peace in Palestine. In the manifesto they read at the presentation of the strike, the activists express their weariness in the face of decades of colonization, occupation, apartheid, murders and asymmetric bombing by the State of Israel against the Palestinian population.

With this action, the activists wanted to denounce the infamy, lies and double standards surrounding the conflict. In addition, they have encouraged letters to be sent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, to demand an end to the arms trade with Israel and to support South Africa’s complaint against the State of Israel.

The continuation of the fight

Despite the end of the hunger strike, Gabriela Serra has affirmed that this action does not mark the end of the struggle for peace in Palestine. Activists feel they have left a torch to continue this cause, which does not end with them.

During the fifteen days of protest, the activists have received the support of different political groups in the Parliament of Catalonia and have managed to reach important compromises. Despite this, Serra emphasized that the Spanish government has not contacted them, but they have received a visit from Minister Meritxell Serret.

A call to action

Activists have encouraged citizens to send letters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, to demand an end to the arms trade with Israel. In addition, they have strongly and firmly supported South Africa’s complaint against the State of Israel. With this call to action, they want to highlight the importance of taking action to achieve peace in Palestine.

The activists’ hunger strike has been a forceful act of protest in defense of peace in Palestine. Despite the end of the strike, the struggle continues and it is everyone’s responsibility to work towards a future of peace and justice for the Palestinian people.
