The DGT and the SCT agree on the return of the tests to the capital of La Garrotxa and other localities
After three years of not being able to take the theoretical driving tests in Olot, the city will host these tests again starting this year. This was agreed by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) in a meeting they held this Wednesday.
According to what was agreed, the SCT will provide the necessary computer equipment to carry out the tests and the DGT will take care of the software. Due to the pandemic, since 2020 the tests had been centralized in Girona, which was an inconvenience for applicants from Garrotxa and other counties.
It has not yet been made public where the tests will be carried out in Olot, but it has been announced that, in addition to this city, the headquarters in Ripoll, Tortosa, La Seu d’Urgell and La Pobla de For sure. The SCT has informed that the first headquarters to be put into operation will be that of Ripoll, in a space provided by the County Council. The Federation of Driving Schools of Girona will coordinate the implementation of the process.
Olot City Council is surprised by the news
The news of the return of theoretical driving tests in Olot has surprised the City Council, which had not received any prior communication from the SCT or the DGT. This, despite having had contacts and meetings with these organizations in recent months. In November 2022, the Olotí council approved a motion promoted by Junts, ERC and the CUP, in which it requested the DGT to once again offer the tests to the city. However, they got no response.
The SCT calls for the transfer of skills to take practical driving tests
In addition to recovering Olot as the seat of the theoretical tests, the SCT took advantage of Wednesday’s meeting to once again ask the DGT to transfer the powers to take the practical driving tests. From the SCT, it is considered that the current situation, with interims and overtime of the examiners, does not cover the needs and the existing demand, with 50,000 people waiting to be able to take the exam according to the estimates of the Catalan administration . According to the Catalan government, the DGT admitted that Catalonia is the only autonomous community where there is a problem of this magnitude.
