Reflections on literature: the problem of low -quality books

The noise of the literary market

I start my days immersed in the news of the world, a way of doing things that allows me to face the work with another mood. This morning, as I was listening, I noticed an advertising interruption that made me reflect: a new novel for St. George was announced. Literature, like any other area, is trapped in the claws of trade, and it is becoming increasingly clear that quality is often eclipsed by the noise of sales.

The question of low -quality books

What I am inhabited is that this incessant marketing transforms works that could be valuable into simple consumer products. There are books that seem to be designed to please the masses, but that are actually authentic disappointments, full of clichés and lack of originality. The paradox is that, in a literary system as limited as Catalan, these low -quality books become the norm, and this should make us reflect.

Literature as a reflection of society

Some argue that the diversity of books, including low quality, is essential for the development of a rich literary system. Accepting that there is mediocre books is a step towards maturity, but we cannot ignore that our literary environment is designed to promote these works. There are books that, without the support of an inflated market for contacts and promotions, should not take place in bookstores.

The need for honest criticism

We need to approach literature with a critical and honest look. If what they offer is low quality books, it is essential to recognize it. Our responsibility as readers is to be aware that not everything that shines is gold, and that commercial successes are not always synonymous with quality. We need to learn to discern between what really brings and what is only used to entertain without substance.

A reflection on our elections

My parents’ sink has always been full of consumer magazines, a space dedicated to unpretentious distraction. Also, literature should be able to house books that, despite being considered of low quality, serve for fun. However, our literary conversation should be deeper and less superficial, preventing mediocre books from becoming the norm.

The reader’s responsibility

Recognizing that there are low -quality books is a first step towards the transformation of the literary landscape. If we are dealing with a book that does nothing, it is important to say it out loud. This Saint George, if anyone presents a book that is not worth it, do not hesitate to signal it. Constructive criticism is necessary, and if one day my work is considered a low -quality book, I will accept it as an opportunity for reflection and improvement.
