A practice that affects customers
After enjoying a meal at a bar or restaurant, it’s important to check the ticket to make sure everything is correct. However, many times this action is not taken for various reasons, such as trust, convenience or simply carelessness.
Facua’s complaint
The association in defense of consumer rights, Facua, has denounced a common practice in some restaurants that affects customers and reinforces its recommendation to always check the ticket. According to Facua, there are restaurants that charge for a service that has not been used, such as bread, thus increasing the final price of the ticket.
Automatic payment of bread
This practice is due to the use of computer programs in which the bread charge is automatically entered at the tables, regardless of whether customers have asked for it or not. This means that the price of the bread is calculated according to the number of diners, but many times this concept is charged even when the customers have only had a coffee or a soft drink.
Rubén Sánchez, spokesperson for Facua, explains that these computer programs are not always configured properly, since you cannot charge for the bread to customers who have only ordered drinks without food. This unfair practice has been denounced by Facua and has generated an increase in the final price of tickets in some cases, as was detected in Seville.
The importance of reviewing the ticket
Reviewing the ticket after paying for a meal is essential to ensure that the price charged is fair and that no unwarranted charges have been added. This action allows customers to protect their rights as consumers and avoid unpleasant surprises at the time of payment.
Facua recommends that customers always check the ticket and, if they detect any irregularity, notify the establishment and, if necessary, file a complaint. This contributes to promoting a more transparent and fair practice in the restaurant sector.
