Saint Egidio prays for peace in Ukraine and asks for humanitarian cooperation

A day of prayer in Rome and other cities of the world

The Community of Sant’Egidio organized a day of prayer for peace in Ukraine on 23 February, coinciding with the second anniversary of the outbreak of the conflict. The prayer was held in the Basilica of Santa Maria del Trastevere in Rome, but people from different cities around the world also joined. The Community, which has not stopped doing its humanitarian work to help refugees and the areas most affected by the war, made an assessment of these two years, and called for solidarity and prayer.

2000 tons of humanitarian aid distributed by Sant’Egidio

According to a statement from the Community, in these two years Sant’Egidio has distributed 2000 tons of humanitarian aid in Ukraine, through five centers located in the territory (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and 3 in Kyiv). In total, more than 370,000 people have received such aid and food, and up to 2 million have received medicine. However, as they say, the situation in the country is increasingly critical, and the humanitarian emergency, increasingly serious. For this reason, the Community of Sant’Egidio will continue to send humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian population, especially to the most vulnerable, such as children, the disabled, the homeless, or the internally displaced (mostly women with children ).

How to collaborate with this cause

In order to continue with this task, the Community has appealed to the public to collaborate with this cause, either by making an online donation or donating medicines. As they explained, it is important that despite the fact that two years have already passed, we do not “remain indifferent to this tragedy”, and he asked that “we continue to pray for peace and respond to the war with solidarity”.
