Organizational and professional improvements for the nursing community
The Catalan Nurses union and the Minister of Health of the Generalitat, Manel Balcells, have signed this Thursday evening an agreement that puts an end to the indefinite strike that the nursing collective has been carrying out since December 12. The reason for the protest was the III Agreement on the working conditions of the statutory staff of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS).
According to union sources, the pact includes organizational and professional improvements for nurses, such as a study of professional nursing workloads and a bilateral table between the department and the organization every two months. These measures aim to improve the quality of health care and the well-being of professionals.
Other aspects agreed between the parties
In addition, the union and the Ministry have agreed to guarantee the right to digital disconnection with the creation of a “digital disconnection code” in 2024 and to recognize nurses as valid figures as shift and guard leaders. They have also agreed to study the real needs of the territory’s fleet of vehicles and increase it based on this assessment during the first semester of 2024 in order to guarantee the portfolio of services from home care to primary care.
The agreement was reached after more than six hours of meeting with the department, in which Councilor Balcells participated. With this series of improvements, the Infermeres de Catalunya union puts an end to the indefinite stoppages they had called after five meetings with the department, two of which were attended by the councillor.
