The arrest of the escaped inmate in the German city of Leipzig
The Spanish police reported this Thursday the arrest of a hitman considered “highly dangerous”, who managed to escape from Madrid’s Alcalá Meco prison on Christmas Eve.
The criminal nicknamed “The Pill” has been tracked down and captured at Leipzig train station, ending a long police chase. The Spanish authorities had followed his trail to Germany.
The spectacular escape through Europe
Yousef Mohamed Lehrech, protagonist of this spectacular escape, managed to cross half of the European continent for almost a month before being captured. The individual took advantage of his relatives’ visit to the prison to confuse them and escape without arousing suspicion.
Criminal records and charges
The hitman had been jailed for the murder of a rival gang member in Cadiz, confessing to the crime. It is also linked to the death of a man who was mistaken for a member of another criminal group. Because of his dangerousness, he was listed as a level five inmate in the Special Monitoring Inmates File (FIES) of Penitentiary Institutions.
Evasion and communications with relatives
The hitman took an opportunity during communications with his relatives to escape without using violence or intimidation. He bypassed security checks and blended in with his relatives to escape.
Current situation
After his capture in Germany, Yousef Mohamed Lehrech will be extradited to Spain to face justice for his crimes. The Spanish authorities are working to get the hitman back to the country quickly.
