Results of the Galician elections
The political landscape is transforming
The Popular Party (PP) faces a challenging scenario in Galicia. According to a recent survey published by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), the ruling party would lose its absolute majority in the next elections to be held on February 18. This study predicts a loss of between 4 and 6 seats for the PP, which currently has 42, leaving them with an estimated number of 36-38 deputies, which represents 43.2% of the votes.
The absolute majority stands at 38 seats and, if the PP fails to achieve it, the possibility of building an alternative left-wing government would open, as long as other political formations obtain favorable results in the elections.
Change in the configuration of the Galician Parliament
The Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) is emerging as the second most important political force. According to projections, it would obtain between 20 and 23 deputies, thus surpassing the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE). Currently, the BNG has 19 seats and would obtain approximately 29.3% of the votes.
The PSOE would be in third position, with an estimate of between 15 and 17 seats, compared to the 14 it currently has, which represents approximately 20.4% of the votes. On the other hand, political formations such as Vox and Podemos would have difficulties obtaining parliamentary representation in Galicia, since they would only obtain 0.4% and 0.4% of the votes respectively.
Incidence of the undecided
A determining factor in these elections will be the high percentage of undecided people. According to the CIS, 13.4% of those surveyed have not yet decided their vote for the February 18 elections. Furthermore, almost 20.2% of those consulted will make their decision during the last week of the electoral campaign, while 5.1% will do so on election day itself.
Assessment of political leaders
Regarding the evaluation of political leaders, Ana Pontón, BNG candidate, is the one who receives the highest average score, with 5.77. She is closely followed by Alfonso Rueda, representative of the PP, with a 5.39. Below a score of 5 is José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, from the PSOE, with a 4.84. The other candidates such as Marta Lois (Sumar), Isabel Faraldo (Vamos), Armando Ojea (Democracia Ourensana) and Álvaro Díaz-Mella (Vox) obtain ratings ranging from 4.09 to 2.7 respectively.
