This Thursday saw the presentation of the third edition of the Premis Sonor, the recognitions that distinguish the best podcast productions in Catalan. The editor of LA MIRA, Joan Camp, and the director of Catalunya Ràdio, Jordi Borda, have explained the details of this initiative which is part of a collaboration agreement between the Catalan Corporation for Audiovisual Media (CCMA) and LOOK AT HER The deadline for submitting nominations opened today and will end on March 15, 2024. A benchmark in the podcast world
The Sonor Awards have established themselves as a benchmark in the world of podcasts in Catalan, after three consecutive editions. With this proposal, we want to reward the country’s talent and creativity and give visibility to products that, made in the Catalan language, compete in a global market. Likewise, the awards have the purpose of promoting the sound heritage in Catalan and recognizing the work that is being done throughout the Catalan Countries in this field.
Six categories and an audience award
This year, the best podcasts broadcast during 2023 will be awarded. Works produced or co-produced and broadcast in Catalan between January 1 and December 31, 2023 will be eligible for the third edition of the Sound Awards. Podcasters will be able to submit to six categories : Best Fiction Podcast, Best Narrative Non-Fiction Podcast, Best Entertainment Podcast, Best Conversation Podcast, Best Branded Content Podcast and Best Innovation Podcast. A jury made up of prominent professionals from the world of communication and, especially, from the world of podcasts, will choose the winning nominations. In addition, there will be four awards proposed by the jury: best production and sound design, best screenplay, best production and best podcaster. There will also be a popular vote award, the People’s Award, which can be voted on from March 18 to 31, 2024.
An award with a future
In the presentation of the 2024 Sonor Awards that took place this Thursday at noon, Joan Camp, editor of LA MIRA, emphasized that the 3rd edition of the award shows that it is “an award with a future and a history”, a fact that, in addition, it makes “the quality of the podcasts presented every time higher” because “they are recognized” by a high-level jury and with the collaboration of the country’s public radio. Camp has valued the strong bet that LA MIRA made in 2022 when it launched this award. “Time, and the fact that we are presenting the third consecutive edition, shows us that we were on the right track and that, without a doubt, podcasts in Catalan have an audience and a bright future.” In fact, in addition to promoting the award, LA MIRA has also made a space in the world of podcasts and has produced several, such as Extrema Catalunya or, very soon, Debriefing Garbo, both in collaboration with Catalunya Ràdio.
For his part, the director of Catalunya Ràdio, Jordi Borda, has highlighted the consolidation of the awards “at a difficult time for the language” and the importance of linking public radio in this contest: “The Sound Awards are a bet more from Catalunya Ràdio, from 3Cat, to promote the sound heritage in Catalan and recognize the work that is being done throughout the Catalan Countries in this area, where there is more and more quality”.
The award winners will be announced during the awards gala that will take place in the spring.
