Write: Elections, Cheesecakes, Spaghetti and Complaint

An Opportunity to Express Your Opinion

Yes, I wanted to write about light topics like cheesecakes, spaghetti carbonara or smash burgers. They are easy things to read, which make you forget your worries and invite you to relax on the couch without thinking about anything else. But the present always reminds us that there are more important issues that we cannot ignore.

Today I have the opportunity and the responsibility to remind everyone who has preferred to spend the day on the beach instead of going to vote, that the European elections are important. We play hard and we cannot allow far-right forces to gain ground. Their proposals jeopardize the Sustainable Development Goals that were agreed in Paris in 2019 to deal with the climate emergency.

Climate Change and the Food System

Climate change is a real threat and the food system plays a key role in it. The farmers have reminded us that it is in the European Parliament where important decisions are made on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). We cannot forget that our food system is responsible for a large part of greenhouse gas emissions.

When we buy local products, we support farmers and at the same time reduce the CO₂ emissions associated with transporting products from far away. In addition, we help maintain the social and economic balance of rural areas, preventing depopulation and reverse gentrification.

The Role of Population in Change

Fixing the population in the territory is essential for the stewardship of nature and for the social and economic balance. The primary sector not only provides us with food, but also provides essential ecosystem services. Cultivating the land regenerates the soil and contributes to sustaining the energy consumption of our societies.

Therefore, our purchase decision has a direct impact on the environment and the health of the territory. Buying local products is a way to contribute to the fight against climate change and to preserve our natural environment.

The Importance of Your Vote

So instead of spending the day at the beach or procrastinating at home, grab your flip flops and go vote. Your vote can make a difference and help build a more sustainable and just future. Don’t let others decide for you, take part in the democratic process and express your opinion.

Remember that your vote is a powerful tool to change things. Don’t let the rotisserie chicken on your plate end up being a chicken with no life and no future. Make your voice heard and contribute to building a better world for all.
