Deadly fire in Mollet del Vallès: a 94-year-old woman lost her life

The fire originated in one room and spread to the rest of the house

A tragedy shook the town of Mollet del Vallès this Sunday night, where a 94-year-old woman died in a fire in a flat. The Generalitat Fire Department received the alert at 19:58 and went to the building, located on the second floor. There they found the flames consuming one of the rooms and the lifeless body of the victim in another room.

The other two people who lived in the building, a 72-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, were able to escape the fire and were taken to the Mollet hospital with minor injuries. The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) attended to them at the scene and sent three units to the scene. The Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire at 20:45, after mobilizing eight equipment, including a self-escalator, a respiratory equipment van and a sanitary unit of the Operational Support Group (GROS) with an EMS nurse.

The residents were confined until it was ensured that there was no danger

During the extinguishing operation, the firefighters asked the residents of the block, with four floors plus an attic, to stay in their houses until it was confirmed that there was no risk of the fire spreading. At 22:40, once the building was ventilated, the residents were able to return to their homes. The Mossos d’Esquadra assumed the investigation of the causes of the fire and the corresponding judicial tasks. Mollet Local Police officers also intervened.
