The local assembly of the CUP of Santa Coloma de Farners has denounced that the City Council has suspended the public food distribution program of which nearly 300 families in the city are in a situation of vulnerability, social exclusion and extreme poverty. , including numerous families with children. According to a press release, the Food Distribution Center (CDA) service was managed by Cáritas, which has resigned from managing the service. And, according to reports, the City Council has not yet announced when the service will be restored, under what conditions or who will manage it. The CUP blames the closure of the CDA of Santa Coloma de Farners on the mayor Carme Salamaña, who we demand to immediately restore the service and improve its funding.

The city council denies it

For her part, the mayor of Santa Coloma de Farners, Carme Salamaña, explained to this newspaper that the service is not closing, but changing its model. “We are working to create our own food bank, as towns such as Maçanet and Riudarenes have also done. It is being moved from the Social Services council”. He also wants to make it clear that no family will be neglected: “Caritas informed us that it was already covered in February, and by March we believe that the new model will be working.” “The CUP is already informed of all this, it was discussed in a plenary session.
