Elections in Catalonia: the PSC is open to agreements and with a priority option for the progressive forces

The position of the PSC after the elections

Lluïsa Moret, deputy first secretary of the PSC and number 2 of the party, has affirmed that the socialists are open to considering all the possibilities of pacts after the 12-M elections. In an interview with RTVE, Moret made it clear that the PSC is not sectarian and only rules out the ultra-right, referring to Vox and Aliança Catalana. However, he emphasized that the PSC does not make sanitary cordons and that they always prioritize progressive forces. Moret has expressed that his party is ready to agree and reach agreements that put first what unites the different political forces and the interests of the country.

The unique financing proposal

Regarding the unique funding proposal that the Government will present today, Moret has stated that the PSC wants it to be as much as possible, but always from a principle of solidarity. He emphasized that it is important that it is a fair, transparent and supportive financing.

The PSC as a progressive force

Moret has claimed that the PSC has shown to the town councils and the Provincial Councils that it is capable of forming diverse governments. He has affirmed that they are always open to pacts and agreements that prioritize what unites them and the interests of the country. However, he has made it clear that the PSC’s choice is always the progressive forces with which they agree ideologically.

Survey results

According to the latest poll published by El Periódico, the PSC would win the Catalan elections with between 35 and 38 seats and 23.8% of the vote. Currently, the PSC has 33 deputies. The second place would be disputed by ERC and Junts, with a tie at 29-32 deputies. Together they would get 18.5% of the votes and ERC 18%. Regarding the past elections, ERC would lose between 1 and 4 seats and Junts would lose between 3 and none. The PP would achieve fourth place with 12-14 deputies, a large increase compared to the current 3 deputies.

Respect for Puigdemont’s decision

Moret has expressed his absolute respect for the decision of the president-in-exile, Carles Puigdemont, to be a candidate. He has stated that if the PSC wins the election, they will do everything possible to govern and that they will go their own way. He recalled that Puigdemont has already been a candidate in the past and that nothing happened. The countdown to the elections has already begun after the publication of the convening decree by the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès.
