How to open cans without any problems

You don’t have to be strong, you just have to be smart

I’m sure you’ve ever wanted to open a jar of preserves and there was no way. Maybe the lid was too tight or maybe the jar had lost its vacuum. Either way, it was as if the jar and lid were one piece and no matter how hard you tried, the jar wouldn’t open.

In these cases, there are those who resort to the traditional method of hitting the pot in the hope that it will loosen a little. But this can backfire: the jar can crack, which can be very dangerous. Also, you might not even manage to open it.

The simplest and most effective solution

Luckily, there is a very easy and quick way to open canning jars without the need for any tools. Just follow these two steps:

1. Put the jar under hot water

This will cause the cap to expand a bit and relax the pressure. Of course, make sure the lid is metal, because if it’s plastic it could melt with the heat. Leave the jar under the tap for a few seconds and then dry it well.

2. Lightly tap one of the edges of the lid

This will cause the lid to warp a bit and break the vacuum. Do this carefully, without damaging the jar or the lid. Then try unscrewing the cap and you’ll see how it now opens without problems.

Canning jars, a practical and versatile option

Canning jars are a good solution for preparing varied dishes when we don’t have much time to cook. But sometimes, opening them can be quite a challenge. For this reason, it is good to know one of the tricks that we have explained to you in this article and, thus, be able to open the cans without any difficulty and without using any unnecessary force which, as we have seen, is sometimes useless.
