The calling of elections and the dissolution of Parliament shakes up the presidency of the Generalitat

The countdown to May 12 begins

The Official Journal of the Generalitat of Catalonia (DOGC) has published the decree calling for elections that promise to be transcendent for the political future of the region. This decision has caused a movement of intense activity in the Catalan political sphere.

A wait regulated by electoral law

According to LOREG, a period of 54 days begins until the date of the elections. President Pere Aragonès justified the advance of the elections after the rejection of the 2024 budget by the Parliament.

Voting by mail and logistical organization

The electoral process will include the possibility of voting by mail, with a clearly established application and issuance deadline. In addition, key dates are announced such as the presentation of candidacies and the draws for the constitution of the electoral months.

Electoral campaign and day of reflection

The official campaign will start at the end of April and culminate with a day of reflection just before election day, creating an atmosphere of debate and expectation among citizens.

Constitution of the Parliament and presidency of the Generalitat

Once the elections have been held, the Parliament must be constituted within a specific period, marking the way towards the appointment of the president of the Catalan chamber. This crucial step will determine the future government of the Generalitat.

With strict legal and procedural deadlines, a calendar is established that will culminate with the investiture of the new president of the Generalitat, with the unknown whether he or she will achieve the necessary majority in the first attempt.
