Agreement between Prison Unions and Catalan Government After Protests

Representatives of the Prison Unions and the Catalan Government Reach an Agreement After Protests

This Tuesday, prison union representatives have agreed to meet with Catalan government officials after two weeks of protests over the murder of the cook at Mas d’Enric prison by an inmate on March 13 past This agreement comes after the demands of the unions to improve the working conditions and safety in the penitentiary centers.

Continued Negotiations and Security Measures

The Government and the unions have agreed to continue negotiating through two tables: a working group exclusively focused on the field of safety in the centers, and another on working conditions. In addition, the Department of Justice has agreed to urgently apply more security measures requested by the workers of the public company CIRE, where the murdered cook worked.

Future Meetings and Early Retirement

Following this agreement, further meetings are planned to address issues of safety and working conditions. In addition, the possibility of the early retirement of prison officials has been raised, a measure that has already been achieved by the Mossos d’Esquadra and that must be approved by the Spanish government.
